Hobbler Half Marathon

When R was still in school, one of the many things she brought home was an index card for a kid's marathon during the Hobbler Half Marathon.  What you needed to do was register your child and pay $10. Then keep track of all the miles they run. They need to run 25 miles on their own before race day, but not all at once. They could run a mile one day and another mile another and then the parents mark them off until they had run 25 miles. R made it really easy because she was doing so many 5Ks that we knocked out 3 miles at time.

We picked up her shirt, bib number, and race packet the day before. The race day was July 12th. We met at the arts park early and waited for the kid's marathon to start.  All they did was the last 1.2 miles to make it a complete marathon of 26.2 miles total run.

At the start line with all the other kids.
The hardest part of the course was at the very beginning, up the arts park hill.

Because it was such a short race, it was only race she ran by herself.
She did carry the walkie talkie! :)
 The last 100 meters
 Crossing the finish line
 Getting her medal.
No, that wasn't her time. That is 2 hours 49 minutes for the half marathon runners!
I thought of timing her, about 5 minutes after she started. Duh!!!!!
 She did it!!!!
 I'm such a proud mama!
I thought this kid's marathon was such an AMAZING idea.
It got kids moving and gave them something healthy to work towards.
I love my little runner!
