"The Ranch"

Ever since I have known Jimmy Hjorth, I have heard about "The Ranch". The ranch this, the ranch that. What really is "the ranch"? We FINALLY were able to see what all the fuss was about, and it was GREAT.

Things I learned about "the ranch":
-Its just outside of Hatch, UT. Doesn't help? Right past Panguitch, UT. Still no?(us either) by Bryce Canyon
-Hatch the city was founded by Jimmy's ancestors. As of 2000 there were 127 people who lived there, all of which are probably related to Jimmy! :) LOL- Now you don't feel so bad that you have never heard of the place!
-Jimmy's family goes down every 24th of July weekend, and has a HUGE family reunion.
-Jimmy has A LOT of "cowboy" family. The morning of the reunion some extended family came to start the cooking. Jared hung around the fire with "the men" just to try to understand what they were saying in their "hick" accents! There was one kid who Jared couldn't understand one word out of his mouth! :)
- The Ranch doesn't have any animals, which you would think a "ranch" would, but I am sure back in the day there might have been.
- The ranch is up a beautiful GREEN canyon. I thought being so close to Bryce Canyon it would be red rocks. NOPE, not the case!
- There is a lot of playing in the water, playing games, and TALKING!

Now on to the photos! :)

We have been wanting to buy our kids "good" sleeping bags, so we found these youth(so a little big for them) sleeping bags. They decided to test them out before we left!

 "THE RANCH"

The river right behind the line of tents in the previous picture
It didn't take R long to find friends and start playing in the water
On the river in the boat. Yes there was a rope, and yes it is inside of the boat. No fast rapids here!
P enjoyed his usual of throwing rocks in.
But P even got some boat time. He LOVED it! (see we used the rope part of the time)
Thanks to our good friends Nate and Kim Terry for the idea, we decided to play around with a flashlight, and my camera!

The next morning Jimmy and P came out of the tent as TWINS. Down to the shoes and all! LOL
Some of us headed to Mammoth Caves. It was only about a 15-20 minute drive away from the campsite.
Jimmy's sister's kids were a huge hit with R. This is Lili, who will also be starting Kindergarten in the fall!
 Climbing down into the caves
A quick family shot, before we headed into the darkness of the tunnels!
It was really wet and muddy inside. Check our R's legs. But it was really cool!
Jimmy and Jared climbing out of the 2nd tunnel. Sorry about the dust!
 Becca and Jimmy!
We had planned on sleeping in Jimmy and Becca's pop up tent trailer. The night they got there we were setting it up, and while they were spinning the lever to lift it up, we heard a pop. Yes, one of the pullies broke. So Jared found a great stick to hold up the one side. Redneck? No, Resourceful!!
More time on the river with the floaties!
Had to throw this one in. R fell into the river. It was FREEZING. She wasn't so happy! :)
Jared got in on the boating fun!
P LOVED the swings. They were set up for Mac(Jimmy's brother) little babies, but P loved when he could use them!
This picture just makes me laugh. This is Cambria and Jimmy's dog Ruger. Poor dog was in a cone the whole time.
 R made her own fire!
R found room in her new sleeping bag for Rose and her pink blanket!
 Night 2, Becca joined us
 Trying other tricks
Notice no light behind us? Pretty cool, huh?!?
Then we tried to write our names. Jared was the only successful one!
 I got close!
This is a funny picture too.  Poor Jimmy, getting tied up by his own dog!
P was being VERY naughty and I sent him away with Jared. Then he later came back with a flower for me. Kind-of melted my heart! Look at that face!
I really enjoyed "The Ranch". It was a nice getaway, with friends. We were even invited to come next year, so my mean-teething child didn't ruin our chances of coming back! Thanks to all the Hjorths for letting us crash your vacation!

P.S. Hope this post made you a little homesick Tiffany and Sam!!!! :)
