Quick Denver Trip

Jared's work schedule had him getting into Denver late morning and not leaving until the next morning. What does that mean? Quick getaway for us!!! There were seats open to Denver and seats coming back the next day, so I quickly packed and we headed to the airport. We got on the plane, and flew to Denver Colorado.

We got in about an hour and a half before Jared. We decided to wait for him there instead of getting the rental car and find the hotel by ourselves.
Q didn't mind!
After surprising dad (we had told him we were already at the hotel), we got our rental car and headed to the hotel. We googled things to do, and decided on Dinosaur Ridge.
P LOVES all things dinosaurs so we thought he'd love it!

We were taken on a tour in a bus around a mountain ridge
and saw many dinosaur bones still in the rock
The dark brown is actual dinosaur bone
Its hard to see in the picture, but there is a dinosaur footprint in the rock.
Its in between P and I at the level of P's sleeve and my forearm!
This was pretty cool, but the pictures don't capture the detail in the rocks. This is FULL of dinosaur tracks, tail drags, and other prints!

After we finished we headed back home, with a detour to the Denver LDS Temple.
We try to visit the local temple wherever we go!

Then the most important part of a getaway, SWIMMING!!!
My kids would be happy staying in a hotel in our town if it had a swimming pool.
That night we were looking at the flights home and they weren't looking very good for us standby flyers. We found a flight that MIGHT work, but would need to leave the hotel at 4am. I wasn't about to deal with 3 tired grumpy kids, so I opted for a flight with a layover. I know, Denver to Salt Lake with a layover? Yes, and it worked great!

Jared left for work the next morning around 6am. The kids were able to eat breakfast at the hotel, get another swim , and take our time to get to the airport around 11am.
Our flight we got on was from Denver to Idaho Falls, ID. My brother lives about 30 minutes away, and I called him asking him if he could be on standby incase we didn't make the flight to SLC.

We had about 2 hours before the flight left and so we grabbed some lunch from a funny little food kiosk.
 Took funny pictures,
and ran around like crazy people. It was just fine, because we were literally the only ones in the tiny terminal! It was hilarious. R kept saying things like "I want to go out of security and come back in just to give the TSA people something to do!"
We made the flight and headed back to SLC
Funny thing was, by the time we landed Jared was finishing work about 40 minutes after we landed. So again, we hung around and surprised him and R was able to keep him company on the drive back home! I love that we can do this tiny getaways! R is just like me and gets the traveling bug and needs to get away!
